Accommodation

Scattered on a leafy hillside close to the main Ohange building lies a group of 10 stone-built, thatched African Style Mountain Huts, well spaced for privacy, but still within close range of the central facilities. Guests can enjoy a direct view of the waterhole and the distant mountains with abundant game and an extraordinary bird life.

Each Hut is equipped with comfortable twin beds and an en-suite shower room with open plan WC and washbasin. Plaster rendered walls topped by thatched roofs provide coolness during the heat of the day. Ohange is connected to mains electricity supply so has reliable power to operate the ceiling fan and the kettle for making tea and coffee in the rooms. The front of each room is built to incorporate a shaded verandah with seating for viewing wildlife. The footpaths that wind up to the bungalows are illuminated at night offering safety and a different perspective on the trees above.

A short distance away from the main complex, our superb swimming pool stands perched on a steep hill, surrounded by an attractive patio with a small thatched relaxation area, sharing with the pool uninterrupted views of the Otavi Mountains.

Activities

Game Drives

Enjoy wildlife as it was intended to be - in nature. Join our late afternoon guided safari where our highly skilled ranger will guide guests in an open 4×4 game drive vehicle. The drive offer excellent sightings of a vast variety of game including Zebras, Giraffes, Wildebeest and the gigantic Eland. Your guide will explain the many intrecasies of the bush to ensures an unforgettable, exciting and informative experience.

The reserve being private and family run is also recognised for its diversity of landscapes and flora. As the day draws to a close, a sundowner on the mountain awaits guests, complemented with refreshments and a breathtaking sunset over the Otavi valley. Duration approximately 2 hours.

Night Drives

The night safari takes place after dinner in an open 4x4 game drive vehicle. The spotlight of the tracker leads you into the starry night and an opportunity to discover the thrill of nocturnal life and splendour not seen during the day. We search for the treasures of the night such as Bushbabies, Porcupines, Genet, Owls and Nightjars.

With luck we might even encounter a free-roaming Leopard. Duration approximately from 1 to 2 hours.

Guided Sundowner Walk

Nothing beats the beauty of a true Namibian sunset. For this approximately 1 ½ hour walking safari comfortable walking shoes and a healthy attitude is recommended. Allow our experienced guide to take you on a journey through discovery filled with entertainment that brings you up close and personal with nature.

We promise breathtaking moments as you hike towards the hills, ending with sweeping views over the valley below occasionally dotted with Giraffes, Zebras, Wildebeest and the gigantic Eland. The guide will spoil you with a drink while you watch the setting sun.

Guided Morning Walk

Africa takes on a new perspective when you walk through the most beautiful scenic landscapes on foot. At Ohange you experience the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush on our early morning walk accompanied by one of our experienced guides. Our guided walks will bring you closer to nature by exposing you to the intimate detail of our surroundings, feeling the freshness and closeness of pure nature.

For the approximately 1 ½ hour bumble in the bush, comfortable walking shoes and a learning attitude is recommended. To enjoy this walking safari you should have a passion for nature and interested in learning about game trails and tracks, birds and the African game.

Nature/Bush Walks

Self-guided walking trails of up to 3 and 8 km, for those guests who want to spend some time alone in the solitude of the Ohange bushveld. Enjoying our unspoiled nature, while hiking on well marked trails and a network of farm-roads allows you to explore the surroundings. With some luck and patience you might even see wildlife up-close. Free of charge.

Bird Watching

The area is a heaven for avid birders with more than 250 species of African birds including rare sightings such as Paradise Flycatchers, Giant Eagle-owls, Green Pigeons, Ruppel’s Parrots and Cape Vultures. From the veranda at the lodge you can see a small fountain that bustle with a colourful diversity of birdlife.

During game drives and bushwalks, our guide will delight in pointing the diversity of birds out. With some luck you could witness a Martial Eagle zooming in on its prey or one of the endangered Lapped-faced Vultures circling the skies.

Water Hole

Our Waterhole is our main attraction, it may be viewed day and night from the comfort of your bungalow or from the main building. The waterhole is floodlit at night and a wide diversity of wildlife congregating and interacting can be seen. The spectacle starts at dawn with animals coming in large numbers to quench their thirst. The excitement continues throughout the day and deep into the night.

In the early evenings, it is not uncommon to have the gigantic Eland, mastic Kudu and elegant Giraffes drinking at the same time while our guest enjoys a traditional Namibian meal around the camp fire.

Namibian Flora

Ohange is exceptionally rich in plant diversity and we are always delighted to show and tell you about the wide variety of plants that our local people still use in their daily lives for food, water, shelter and medicine. At Ohange you can enjoy the shade of huge Marula and Tamboti trees around the rooms and main building.

Pool

Guests are welcome to make use of the pool at any time of the day or night. Our sparkling pool invites you to cool off during the scorching heat of mid-day or to soak up the sun on the pool terrace with a refreshing drink in hand. Ohange will rejuvenate your soul and tantalize your senses.

Dining

Our guests of honour are invited to a home-cooked meal beneath the twinkling stars while enjoying the view over our active waterhole. Our delicious African cuisine prepared by well trained kitchen staff and served on open fire is set to satisfy even the most demanding taste buds.

Let the warmth of the blazing camp fire surround you, while your hosts Karla and Justus entertain you with their experiences and vast knowledge of Namibia.
