Kanaan Desert Retreat

On 33 000 hectares of unspoilt nature Kanaan Desert Retreat is home to free roaming kudu, springbok, ostrich, oryx, caracal, hyena, bat-eared fox and jackal. Endless contrasting landscapes are a photographer's paradise bordering the Namib Naukluft Park with its breathtaking photogenic dune belt to the west and the Tiras Mountains to the east.

Nestled in the pristine landscapes of Kanaan Desert Retreat is a campsite ready to invite the intrepid traveller to nights of a true desert experience. Convenient facilities include shower and toilet at each campsite to make your experience a true Namibian one, but with those little luxuries that make this unique stay as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Activities

Sunset or Sunrise Drives
Sunrise drives start rendering to the given season, but just at the crack of dawn, to make sure you get the best out of your scenic experience. Coffee and Rusks will be served along the way in the morning and expect various encounters with free roaming Oryx, Springbok, Ostrich and Mountain Zebra or be very lucky and cross ways with one of our free roaming Big Carnivores, a Cheetah or a Leopard.Sunset drives also start according to the given Season. Scorpion Night Walk
This excursion will blow your mind. After a divine dinner we head out by foot in the dark of the night seeking the little nocturnal creatures so often forgotten. We will look for scorpions, spiders and nocturnal geckos in the light of a special UV lamp bringing the darkness to gloom. When the moonlight steals the show from the glooming scorpion, as on full moon nights, unfortunately this activity cannot be offered! Kanaan Scorpio Night Walk

From Windhoek

  • Take the B1 south to Mariental, then turn right on to C19 towards Maltahöhe
  • Continue through town to the T-junction, then left on to C14, then continue for 35km
  • Turn right on to D824 and drive for 11km
  • Follow the D831 left, and then right on to D826 towards Duwiseb Castle
  • Continue to Betta then left on to C27 towards Farm Spes Bona
  • At Spes Bona turn right on to D707 and continue for 45km to Kanaan Desert Retreat entrance.
