Fish River Lodge

A place so quiet, even your thoughts whisper.

A tribute to the silence and beauty of the Fish River Canyon.

Making the most of the beautiful vistas, the Fish River Lodge has been built in harmony with its stark, striking surroundings. Completed in 2009, all the buildings that make up the lodge pay tribute to the amazing landscape, offering spectacular views of the Fish River Canyon from sunrise to sunset.

The architecture and interiors of Fish River Lodge have taken their queue from the rugged landscape that surround it. Contemporary, and at times monastic, the lodge was designed to reflect the unique beauty of its location.

Life on the edge

20 private chalets are dotted along the edge of the canyon, flanking both sides of the main lodge. As with the main building, guests can soak up the enchanting views. The beds have been placed to allow guests a prime spot from which to gaze over the majestic canyon as the sun washes a kaleidoscope of colours over the landscape every morning.

  • Outdoor decks overlook the canyon
  • The additional outdoor showers takes you one step closer to nature
  • Large bathrooms with sufficient storage space to keep clutter out of the bedroom
  • Double basins
  • An outdoor platform allows for sleeping under the stars on warm nights and is ideal for yoga enthusiasts

Main Lodge

Tearing deep through the ancient landscape of Gondwanaland, the Fish River Canyon is hidden from sight as you approach the main lodge from a farm road off the D463. It is only once you pass through the doors of the Fish River Lodge that the dramatic landscape explodes in full view.

Features include:

  • A rim pool with spacious wooden deck that is ideal for relaxing and outdoor eating
  • Crackling fires warm the interiors in winter when the wind and cold snaps draw guests inside
  • Lunches are served on the deck whilst breakfast and candlelight dinners are served in the dining area
  • Contemporary designer furniture blend with antiques and locally sourced handicraft to create an authentic ambiance

Map and Directions to Fish River Lodge

GPS:  27° 31' 38.40" S /  17° 32' 12.78" E

Fish River Lodge is situated on the western rim of the Fish River Canyon. This is a little more off the beaten track than the eastern rim. Traversing this wild and rugged landscape along the way will introduce you to the extreme beauty of the area. There are farm gates along the way that we ask you to kindly close if needs be.

Driving from Keetmanshoop or Luderitz direction on the B4: This is the route we recommend. Take the D463, a gravel road to the turn off to Fish River Lodge. There are signs along the way and this section will take about 2 hours.

Driving from Rosh Pienaar in the South: Take the D463 from the C13. It feels like it will last forever, but please keep going until you get to the Canyon Nature Park and Fish River Lodge signs.

The access road to the lodge just off the D463 is an adventurous 19km path through river beds and across open plains edged with mountains, where you may glimpse Kudu and Ostrich in the dry river beds. The road is best traversed using vehicles with high clearance or 4 x 4. We recommend that you drive this section slowly and carefully.

After 5km on this track you will pass two farm houses; follow the small signs to the lodge which is a further 14km.

Please do not take the C12 towards the Fish River Canyon as you will end up on the eastern side of the canyon and there are no roads across the canyon to Fish River Lodge.

Please leave plenty of time for your journey so you can enjoy the drive and arrive in daylight or in time to catch the sun set over the canyon.
