About Sun Karros Daan Viljoen Windhoek Accommodation
We built Sun Karros Daan Viljoen with an explorer's love of the wild and a jet-setter's love of peace and quiet, lazy days and creature comforts. Welcome to another perfect day in Namibia.
Daan Viljoen is a place that nature and wildlife lovers can explore, by means of self-guide, in safety on short game drive, walks and hikes. The 6.5 km game route requires a 4 x 4 vehicle. The 3 km Wag ‘n Bietjie Trail, leading down to The Stengel Dam, is an easy walk for adults. The more energetic Rooibos Trail takes hikers along The Augeigas Dam to the eastern highlands.
The Park has no large predators but it is home to baboons, blue wildebeest, springbok, kudu, oryx, Hartmann mountain zebra, giraffe, eland and black-backed jackal. Smaller species include dassies, porcupines and yellow mongoose.
The Augeigas Dam and pools around the park are magnets for birds, so Sun Karros Daan Viljoen is highly recommended for birdwatchers. Over 200 species have been sighted. Endemic species include Ruppell’s parrot, White-tailed shrike and Monteiro’s Hornbill, and there is also the possibility of adding a Damara Hornbill to your bird list.
Independently located around the Daan Viljoen dam, visitors can now experience all the luxury of a modern day breakaway, in unique, contemporary African chalets. Each one of our 19 chalets is fully equipped with air-conditioned rooms, satellite TV’s and mesmerizing patio views, ensuring the visitor an exclusive and luxurious atmosphere.
Visitors at Sun Karros can also indulge their taste buds with delicious, home-style cooking from the restaurant, while gifts and memorabilia are always available at our kiosk.
Boma Restaurant and Pool
In the African language the word 'boma' is a place of gathering and our Boma is exactly just that. Here guest enjoy a few laps in the almost 20 m pool or soak up the sun. The grass terrace is perfect for soothing ice cold or comforting warm beverages and sweet treats while the sun sets over the Khomas Hochland. Guests can also enjoy the scrumptious home-style cooking or a light beverage prepared at the Restaurant.
We have it all, from appetising appetisers, to succulent steaks, pleasant pasta to decadent desserts, your cravings will be met with satisfaction. Don’t forget, whether you stay over, or just want to come through for the day, we serve mouth-watering Saturday and Sunday lunches and divine dinners at the restaurant.
Although Sun Karros Daan Viljoen is a private lodge, day visitors are welcome to enjoy breakfast, lunch and/or dinner at the Boma Restaurant and pool area. From 13 November Sun Karros Daan Viljoen will increase it's day visitation fee to N$100 (non- refundable)per person (including children 5 years and older) payable on arrival. This fee ensures entry into the lodge premises and is applicable daily from opening till 18:00.
